How to correctly design panels for small circuits? - part 2
Routed and v-cut scored panels Each circuit form, unless rectangular, necessitates routing. V-cut scoring is necessary if circuits in the panel have at least one vertical or horizontal edge; in such a case it will be possible to route the remaining edges. Mixed processing (Photo 1) allows one to reduce the disadvantages of both methods used separately. It is also recommended for rectangular circuits smaller than 30 mm as it facilitates separation of boards when compared to a fully v-cut scored panel. Photo 1. Routed panel (horizontal edges and cuts) and v-cut scored panel (vertical edges) with frame between two rows of boards an...
PCB design – only Eagle?
One of the most popular tools for designing printed circuit boards includes EAGLE software. The Autodesk company that has been administrating it since last summer have decided to introduce a subscription for users. Until now, a one-off licence purchase (USD 70 for the standard version, USD 800 for the extended version) guaranteed unlimited use of the software, now EAGLE subscription does not offer such a possibility. The Autodesk decision has caused a lot of agitation especially among smaller companies with a limited budget and those not planning yearly costs connected with mere circuit design. This is because from now on the following monthly rates for using EAGLE ...
How to correctly design panels for small circuits? - part 1
Directions of development in the manufacture of electronics exhibit a progressive trend towards the miniaturisation of electronic equipment with a simultaneous increase in its functionality. The tendency to miniaturise devices is already widely known and this is related to the reduction of physical sizes of printed circuit boards which directly influences the production and assembly process. Circuits of size 50 mm and smaller should be produced in panels. When designing them two decisions need to be taken: the optimal layout and number of circuits, and the selection of appropriate mechanical processing method taking into account size, form of single boards and lamin...
